Children’s Recreation Centre

The competition called for the design of a playroom for disabled children to complete the Western side of “La biblioteca degli alberi” park.
Our project was inspired by the park’s design: a spiral-shaped structure that rises from the grass and forms a kind of “enclosure”, enveloping the building and surrounding its large roof balcony.
The nature of the lot itself, which is surrounded by tall buildings so as to appear almost hypogeum, strongly influenced our design. We chose a zenithal illumination.
The reception area, two 50sqm and three 30sqm rooms, are located on the ground floor. In each of these, natural ventilation funnels make sure a constant hygrothermal comfort is maintained.
The first floor will host a 60sqm multipurpose room, a family meeting space, two offices and a staff room.
The roof is designed for open-air activities with views over the park.
