Cascia Loft

Milan
2006

This attic flat is one of many redevelopment projects for the ex Giò Style factory, a multi-storey building built in the ‘60s.

The space is square, 9x9m and 4,5m high, with two almost entirely fenestrated walls facing South and West.

The living room is an open, high-ceilinged space; a suspended platform hosts a bedroom and a study.

The walls have been left unfinished and white cement was used for the flooring. The stairs, the suspended platforms, the doors and the bathtub are made of pitch pine, common in ship yards thanks to its water-resistant qualities. A special kind of black paint coating the kitchen wall turns it into a chalkboard, making it possible to draw and scribble on it.
